1st Half

Graham Oaklief runs toward the end zone

Massillon’s defense had a bit of trouble on the opening drive as a bubble screen and a couple of runs got GlenOak into Massillon territory. Adrian Pascley ended the threat with an interception and flipped the field with a big return. Graham Oaklief barreled through the Golden Eagles’ defense and scored the Tigers’ first touchdown of the night. Vander Harris put the extra point through the uprights and increased the lead to 7-0. Massillon’s defense made another stand; Bodie Hutchison brought the heat on a 3rd-down play and forced an incompletion. Following a punt, Oaklief got to work again. He found the sideline and the end zone on a 66-yard run to put the Tigers up 14-0. Massillon had a few good defensive plays on the following drive. A batted pass by Bodie Hutchison, a pass breakup by Damian Rivera, and a tackle-for-loss set up a 4th-down play, but GlenOak converted after a pass interference penalty was called. A 4th-down touchdown run cut the lead to 14-6 and it remained that way as the extra point was muffed and blown up by the Tigers. Oaklief set the Tigers up deep with another huge run. Quarterback Coleton Adams tossed a pass to Ricardo Parker, who turned around three Eagles on his way to the end zone. As the light rain that had fallen for much of the contest intensified, GlenOak began a rally. A cutback screen for a touchdown and a scoop-and-score cut the Tiger lead to 21-20. Ricardo Parker and the Tigers soon put an end to that. Parker pulled in a short pass and made quick work of the GlenOak defenders. Hunter Swann sprung Parker on one final block and he cruised untouched into the end zone. Oaklief punched the ball in for 2 and the Tigers regained a more comfortable lead at 29-20. GlenOak ran out of time and the Tigers ended the half on top.

2nd Half

Adrian Pascley goes up for a contested ball

The Tigers looked as if they would punt to start their drive, but Hunter Swann faked the kick and ran the sideline for a 1st down. A couple of first downs by Oaklief put the Tigers in good field position but a 3rd-and-long pass was picked off, giving the ball to the Golden Eagles. The Massillon defense stood strong, pushing GlenOak back and executing excellent tackles– a trait seen throughout the contest. The Tigers got the ball back but went 3-and-out. GlenOak took their next drive into the 4th quarter– it too ended in a punt. Massillon picked up a couple of 1st downs on runs by Bodie Hutchison, but a questionable spot on a 4th-down run gave GlenOak the ball. Several questionable penalties followed and aided GlenOak in a last-second march down the field. Hunter Swann leapt to bat a pass down in the end zone and Adrian Pascley intercepted a pass as time expired to seal the game.
