The Tigers knocked off #1 yet again on Friday. Four times the Eagles of St. Edward High School have been ranked at the top in the state of Ohio, and four times the Tigers have stunned the state with resounding upsets.

Offensive Spotlight Player

Savior Owens– who else?– is this week’s offensive spotlight player. It had been said during the offseason that Owens could be the best Massillon running back in recent memory. Week after week he has led the Tigers with his tackle-breaking, defender plowing runs. Owens leads the Tigers with 9 touchdowns and 640 yards rushing on the year, averaging 6.5 yards per carry. Coming into this season, Owens had very limited playing time with the varsity and no college offers. Just prior to the season, Owens showcased his high jump, broad jump, shuttle, and 40-yard dash skills and was offered on the spot by Toledo, Kent State, Bowling Green, and Miami (OH). Fast forward to week 5 and Owens continues to prove on the field that he is one of Ohio’s top JR running backs.

Owens averaged 5 yards per carry against the top team in the state, picking up 162 yards on 32 rushes. He scored 2 touchdowns, including a 45-yard house call. Not only did Owens lead the Tigers in rush yards, but he also lead Massillon with 60 yards receiving. This performance (rumored to be watched by over 30 major college scouts) earned Owens a Big 10 offer from Wisconsin. It also earns him the offensive spotlight once again.

Defensive Spotlight Player

A pair of players take the spotlight in week 5’s edition. Ja’Dyn Williams (yet again) and the first-time appearance of defensive lineman Samuel Dossous are in the spotlight this week.

Ja’Dyn Williams played yet another college-level game at linebacker. There was much on the line for Williams and the Tigers– they were up against an excellent Ed’s run game (led by Michigan State commit Brandon White) and Williams was playing in front of Ohio State linebacker’s coach James Laurinaitis. Williams earned the Ohio State offer with his stellar play– 10 tackles, 1 tackle-for-loss, 1/2 sack, a fumble recovery, and a clutch interception highlighted his night against Ohio’s top team.

Samuel Dossous is a name that had not yet been called much this season– he may be one Tiger fans remember as he keeps improving on the defensive line. Dossous was a key part of the Tiger defense on Friday. He picked up 6 tackles, a sack, 2 tackles-for-loss, and had a couple of quarterback hurries in crucial moments.
