Offensive Spotlight Player– Savior Owens, Running Back
Week 1 found Savior Owens in the spotlight; he is featured again in Week 3 for his performance vs Rabun Gap.
The Eagles of Rabun Gap boasted D1 players at almost every position. Those numbers and the size of Rabun’s line did not matter to running back Savior Owens. He plowed through the Eagles whenever he had the opportunity, converting crucial 3rd and 4th downs while picking up 182 yards (a career high) and 3 scores. Even when the Tigers were down, Owens did not give up. He almost singlehandedly led a drive down the field while the Tigers were down 28-50. Owens kept fighting and put another score on the board even when the game seemed totally out of reach. For his career-best performance and “never-give-up” attitude on the field, Savior Owens is this week’s Offensive Spotlight Player.
Defensive Spotlight Player– Ja’Dyn Williams, Linebacker
Ja’Dyn Williams (my Week 1 spotlight player) seems to be involved in every defensive play and continues to impress with his tackling technique. His takedowns last week against Rabun Gap elicited high praise from Coach Nate Moore at Monday night’s Booster Club meeting.
Williams has 56 tackles in only 3 games this season and 159 so far in his career. Watch for him to break records and place highly on career and single-season tackle lists.
On Friday Williams had 15+ tackles (pending a more precise review), a fumble recovery, and multiple tackles-for-loss. He stifled a fake punt and came across the field numerous times to shut down Rabun’s talented offense. For his “all-over-the-field” mentality and D1-type tackling, Ja’Dyn Williams is this week’s Defensive Spotlight Player.
